This Year's Model Updates:

Chevy's personal-luxury coupe receives only minor changes for 2002. LATCH child safety-seat anchors, dual-zone air conditioning and three-point seatbelts for rear passengers are now standard on all models. Bright Red and Medium Green Pearl replace Torch Red and Dark Jade Green as exterior color options.

Pros:
  • Large interior, low sticker price, strong V6 in SS models.
Cons:
  • Front-wheel-drive platform, no passenger side-impact airbag, cheap interior bits.

  • Fantastic car - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I bought this car new and took it on a trip down the east coast to Florida and back. Had a Lincoln Town Car prior to this one. Loved the way the car rode and handled especially through the mountains. Averaged about 29 mpg for a 3500 mi. trip. I also have a heavy foot, Im an old racer and still like to go fast. Buried the spedo coming out of Winston Salem about 3am. Hard to believe for a six! I would have liked a little more HP to blow off the Mustangs. Im 69, Ive raced drags, stocks, motorcycles. My scooter has 145HP and weighs 525lbs. I know about performance and power and I love this car! I cant believe GM discontinued it. All you had to do is drive it and youd buy it.

  • No more GM cars for me! - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I was very disappointed by this car. Ive always bought North American, but no more. First, the interior console peeled and had to argue with dealership to replace. Now, paint is peeling in large chunks in wheel wells (hear this is common), taking side body paint with it. It is covered in paint "pops" (paint popping from underneath, not ships as dealer is trying to claim). I am a former paint chemist who knows coating failure when I see it. GM should be ashamed in this day and age of putting this quality on the road. That they do nothing about it says volumes about a car manuf. that I will no longer trust.

  • Mid Life Crisis - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I only have had the car for about 2 months but I love it. It has been labeled my mid life crisis. Its a great looker and what a ride! For all ownwers looking for a few more ponies, try Borla Cat-back kit. It will set you back about 850.00s, but between the Borla kit and a K & N charged air filter you will gain about 15 or 20hp.And it wont void your warranty!

I have had my montel carlo ss for one year now. I am pleased with the car. Im a big and tall guy and its very comfortable. I have taken several road trips in the car. I have had only one problem with the car in that the battery went dead after only one year. It was most likely just a lemon. Overall this is a great car to own. I have decided I wanted a truck and I am stuck with this car for awhile because I paid 27k for it and trade in value is 16k. Great car, just doesnt hold its value.

  • bad experiance - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

the monte carlo is a nice looking car, but I have encountered a great deal of trouble. The paint is defective, My hood had to be repainted three times for them to finaly replace it. my abs modulator has gone out. the car has been worked on three times for having a hard start, and the problem still exists. the dash has been repaired and/or replaced at least three times.

  • 02 Monte SS - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I bought a 2002 Monte SS in February (black). After driving it for five months, I still love it. The ride is very smooth, and the 3.8 V6 delivers an excellent blend of power and fuel economy. Personally, I love the exterior styling...I get compliments all the time on it. For less than $24,000 I got everything but leather seats, which I dont like. So I got ABS, dual exhaust, heated power mirrors, programmable garage door opener, power sunroof, OnStar, trip computer...you name it. I cant say enough about it....

  • Hi Miler Reports on 2002 Monte Carlo - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

No car of its price range is, in my opinion, more strikingly beautiful than the Monte Carlo. It looks a little bit like an old Lincoln, and with some imagination it can be your luxury car. Its harder to steer than it needs to be, more difficult to exit and enter than it should be. It lacks places right and left to put your elbows when you drive. Other than that, the entire car is engineered in a masterful way-- all parts of the car articulate well, everything works, and the sound system is truly outstanding. Car takes too rapid a price dive after purchase--buy it only if you plan on keeping it for a while.

  • Yellow SS - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Ive had my SS for two weeks now, and love it to death. Coming from my 1999 Honda Accord, this car has more pickup, and better handling. It is also very roomy inside for a coupe. The trunk is spacious enough for me to add my subs, and still have access to the spare tire.

  • Monte Carlo LS Rocks - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
    By -

The 2002 Monte Carlo LS is not only fun to drive, but gets excellent gas mileage and because there are not a lot of them on the road, turns heads. Sleek, stylish and fun to drive. The controls are built for the driver, allowing ease of use. The separate passenger heat control eliminates any debate about the temperature and the stereo rocks!
